The War on Make-Up…. letters from the front line!

Aug 27

Hello readers…

I thought it odd today, after seeing all the patients on my book today that two patients came in with the same perspective on make-up. After 19 years in this field… I have seen women try different kinds of make-up to try and cover what they feel are flaws in their skin.

Make-up does, in fact, help even out skin tone and texture… to an extent. More and more as I see acne on the rise with older patients as well as younger ones…. the question comes “What make-up covers the best?” I always respond with, “Well, it depends on what you are trying to cover!” Foundation should not be used to cover more than just minor imperfections and color variations in the skin. Your skin should be thought of as a palette! Your objective should be correcting the imperfections as best you can… and trust me there are many things that can be done to even that tone and texture so that all you need to use make-up for is enhancement and fun! That is really what it was intended for in the first place. Skin should be cared for… not neglected and then covered.

Mineral make-up has become the “buzz” word in cosmetics today and I’m buzzing about it too! It is the cleanest way to enhance the skin. The days of liquid make up, not to mention pancake and thicker formulas… are pretty much over. ANYTIME you cover your skin with a product that contains that much pigment and fillers and “gunk” ….. you are going to make your skin work harder to function the way it is supposed to.

We use Jane Iredale in our office and it is used by all the major networks on Television these days… Thank GOD we don’t all work in High-Definition all day! Am I right?

We don’t carry the entire line… but the foundations and concealers are really high quality and work very well with all skin types.

If you are one of those people who is trying to “find the right foundation”…. you need to stop and ask yourself what you are trying to cover and if it is more than just enhancement… work on fixing the underlying problem…. then you are more free to have fun with make-up and your over all look will improve.

Been busy…

Hello readers….

I apologize for not posting much last week…. we have had out of town guests and everyone knows how that can be a little “encompassing!” Plus, school is back in session and all the moms have been coming in repairing a summer’s worth of sun exposure!  But I have to be honest and say that my mind has been ever-so-slightly sidetracked by something that I didn’t see coming.

This is our new baby! Many of you have heard about Remy… but we get him next week and have been puppy proofing our house and learning as much as we can prior to his esteemed arrival! This child is going to be quite the little prince in our home. I’m really struggling with my kitten children because I feel bad for introducing a little chaos in their tranquil world… but I’m hoping that after a few weeks of adjustment… we will be a big happy family!

I promise to post something in the next few days… but I wanted you to know that I am still here and kicking! Talk soon!

Fever…of the baby kind

Aug 15

Ok, it will probably only last for a couple of days… at least lets hope!!!

My cousin Kacey and his lovely wife Julie, who guest blogged for me a post ago… or so, made a stop in Tulsa for brunch with us this morning. It was so great to see them… they live in Austin and we all dreamed for a minute as to how much fun it would be to live in the same city. It is so nice to have family that you love and get along with. Anyhoo, we got to meet Miss Emily for the first time in her short 4 months on the planet. She is ADORABLE!!! I wanted to eat her up… and I officially have the fever…. baby fever! I have had it from time to time and it usually only lasts for a couple of days…. but, of course, my first thoughts go to the nursery!!!! I will submit that as example A, as to why I hope this only lasts for a few days. LOL

I found this lovely space and fell in love… who wouldn’t want to be a baby in this room?

I snapped a little photo of them this morning in the living room… and it’s sooooo grainy…. Julie will be so disappointed in the shot because she loves perfection as much as anyone… but I didn’t want to waste a minute to run and get the good camera… so the iPhone had to do!

We love you all and hope you will return soon…. see you in Austin sooner than that!

New Peel… No Downtime… New Skin!

Aug 08

Hey all…. for those of you in this part of the world…. IT’S HOT!!!!! I’m so over it!

So, to take our minds off the heat… let’s talk about skin! As we get closer to the fall, the summer sun has had its way with our skin. We have (maybe) tried our best to apply sunscreen and take care.. and there is still evidence of the exposure.

We have offered the Retin-A Peel in my office for years and seen it’s incredible benefits. It is still the most popular peel I have ever done. It is highly effective and especially known for treating hyperpigmentation (brown spots) among other things. Dr. Manduano has formulated a new peel… it’s like the new generation of Retin-A Peel… and it’s most exciting feature…. NO DOWNTIME!!!! This peel gives the you the results you want, without having to plan for it. The most you will experience will be light flaking that can all be concealed with moisture and make up…. IF you even need that!

This is the letter that has been emailed to the patients from our office! If you have any questions… let me know.
