The world from my view. Day 103 (Apr 13, 2011)

This is my friend Sara! She is one of the funniest people with an incredible lightheartedness about life. She sees the good in most all things…. and I have never seen her unhappy.

I have seen here laugh and cry at the same time for no apparent reason…. which we still laugh about today and chalk it up to hormones. But what amazes me the most is that this small but brave and powerful girl work at the jail! LOL She administers psych meds for the inmates and does evaluations on their “progress”…… OMG the stories she has to tell…. I look forward to every visit. Today’s involved a man who thought marbles were coming out of his fingernails. Hmmmmm, don’t think so…

She never has a boring day…. and neither do I…. for totally different reasons!

She has found a great man and will be married soon… he is a lucky man and has his very own “little burst of light” all to himself.

The world from my view. Day 87 (Mar 28, 2011)

I passed this available lot on Utica.

Honesty, it was the home of two great people who lost their home and lives during the ice storm a few years back. They have now cleared the lot and it is now up for sale….. I don’t know if you can see it or not… but Philbrook Museum would be in your back yard! OMG… it’s beautiful! I hope the people that buy it… appreciate it.

Home sweet home

Jul 12

So….. i’twas another Saturday night and after working all day doing domestic stuff… we decided to order from our favorite pizza place… open a bottle of wine and watch a movie. Not the most exciting idea… but we do love to do that!

To say the least it became “Complicated”….. we hadn’t seen the movie “It’s Complicated” yet…. don’t really know why we waited… I think I actually thought it wasn’t going to be as wonderful as others had said, because I hadn’t been through that in my life… I mean I have had an “ex” or few before… but this story had more too it… children(without fur), heterosexuality, and living in California. It didn’t really yell “my story”… ya know? But alas… there were parts everyone could relate to.

Needless to say… we loved it…. opened another bottle of wine (story about that to come) and watched it a second time. Something we haven’t done before. I have…but Allan is a one-time only, movie watching person. I have to admit that the reason we watched it again was that we wanted to make sure we got the story completely! We were obsessed with something else in this film. THE HOUSE!!!!!! We have found it…. our dream house! And that biotch, Meryl Streep has it!!!! Actually, who doesn’t love Meryl Streep… OMG…. is she not…simply divine? And her performance in this was stellar! There were so many parts of the movie to talk about..namely that I now want to have a daughter JUST so I can have a son-in-law, just like that! He is wonderful! I will probably blog about more later….. so many hysterical scenes…. but we have to talk about this house! Seriously…. it could hardly be any better. From the moment the camera opened on the front door… I was in love! I said “I’m gonna love this house” and I did! It’s a fabulous spanish villa that is on probably 3 acres of priceless land in Santa Barbara. Nestled perfectly under 100 year old trees and painted to blend beautifully with the setting. It’s gorgeous! Probably not far from Oprah and Rob Lowe…. Santa Barbara isn’t very big ya know……..

You enter into that dining area that leads into the kitchen that will soon be something else (dying to know what) and it’s flawlessly designed. Farmhouse Chic with a touch of Mediterranean Mojo and Voila’! From the dining room chairs snugly leaning up against that old farm table. To the sconces on the wall in the hallway and the brown saltillo tile on the floor…. and OMG…. the custom built armoire, that I must duplicate, in her living room! DELICIOUS!!!! Her color palette is exquisite and taste beyond compare. ‘Dish-ware’… simple whites that are ever-so-slightly off…. amazing wine goblets…. AGGGGHHHHHHH, the most perfect garden (Martha must send her crew over to care for it!) My tomatoes do not look like that! Even the darn hat she wears while picking aforementioned perfect tomatoes, is perfection!!!!!!!!

It’s like they reached inside my brain and said… Gabe, we are going to create your perfect home and let you use it to create one for yourself! And I shall….

The blessing in all of this is that we are closer than we thought…. after we watched the movie(s), with wine in hand… we went outside and looked at what appears to be the “carriage house” to Ms. Streep’s characters sprawling ranch…. but we love our home and only having been in it about a year and a half…. we are quite content that we are well on our way to creating a space we love as much and Meryl loves hers…
